the climb up was long, the ride down gone in the blink of an eye.
The first gate was open so i locked my bike and followed a beaten path through the elbow-high wildflowers, starting across the bridge. The air was crackling with high tension wires, radio towers, insects.

Damn high bridge. It would take a long time to hit the highway from a careless lean on one of these rusted railings. The Daisies, taller than the railings, made the path appear like a flying carpet soaring over the teeming ribbon of toy trucks and trains below.

This abandoned train bridge has a long history. It also has a second gate with a lock on it. My vertigo melds with the apprehension of a trespasser. Relief is quick. I unlock my bike and continue riding down the Cynwyd Trail to Rock Hill Road & Belmont, onto the Green Lane Bridge across the Schuylkill River to Manayunk.
